Chili Pie

from Jane Kooken- May 1978 (Mary Jo Tolbert's recipe collection)

1 lb ground beef

1/3 cup chopped onions

1 T. shortening

2 t. chili powder

3/4 t. salt

1 t. Worcestershire

1 cup canned tomatoes

1 cup drained canned kidney beans

1 cup corn bread batter (1/2 pkg mix or 1/2 standard recipe)

Brown meat and onion in melted shortening. Add seasonings and tomatoes. Cover and simmer over low heat for 15 minutes, then add beans. Pour meat mixture into greased 1 1/2 quart casserole. Top with corn bread batter. Bake at 425F for 20 minutes. Serves 4-6.
