Betty's Chicken and Dumplings

Mother (Betty Brumley) just throws her dumplings together. A little of this and that. But, one day I was at her house and tried to write down the ingredients as she made them. Here is the best I could do. Carolyn Hillje

2 ½ to 3 cups flour

2 t. salt

¾ to 1 cup shortening

3 eggs

some ice water

Mix the flour and salt. Cut in the shortening. Add the eggs and enough ice water to make a workable dough. Knead a little. Roll out and cut into strips.

Drop into boiling chicken broth to which 1 stick of butter and 1 can of cream of chicken soup have been added. Cook 10 to 15 minutes. Put a lid on the pan and cook on low for 15 to 20 minutes.
