French Breakfast Puffs (Mary Jo Tolbert)

In a large bowl beat together well:

1/3 cup shortening

½ cup sugar

1 egg

In a separate bowl sift together:

1½ cup sifted flour

1 ½ tsp. baking power

½ tsp salt

¼ tsp. nutmeg

Add flour mixture alternately with ½ cup milk. Mixing thoroughly. Spray muffin pans. Fill muffin cups about ½ full. Bake at 450°F.

Melt 1 stick butter or margarine. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Roll hot muffins in butter and then in the sugar and cinnamon mixture until covered.
