German Chocolate Poundcake

1 pkg (4 oz) Baker's German Sweet Chocolate
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
4 eggs
2 t. vanilla
2 t. imitation butter flavor
1 cup buttermilk
3 cups sifted flour
1/2 t. soda
1 t. salt
Melt chocolate (either over water bath or microwave). Cool. Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs, flavorings, and buttermilk.
In a separate bowl, sift flour, soda, and salt together. Add to sugar mixture, mix well. Stir in cooled chocolate until blended. Pour batter into a well-greased and floured 9 inch tube pan. (Also works well in bundt pan) Bake in a low oven - 300F for 60-90 minutes. Remove from pan while still hot and place under tightly fitting cover until thoroughly cooled. Tastes great with or without glaze.
