Angel Biscuits (Betty June Koricanek)

2 packages dry yeast
¼ c. warm water (110-115 degrees)
2 c. warm buttermilk (110-115 degrees)
5 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
1 T. baking powder
1 t. baking soda
1 T. salt
1 c. shortening
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand 5 minutes , set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt baking soda, baking powder. Cut in shortening , until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in yeast/buttermilk mixture; mix well. Turn onto lightly floured surface; knead lightly 3-4 times. Roll to a ½ inch thickness. Cut with a 2 ½ inch biscuit cutter.Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise about 1 ½ hrs. Bake 450° for 8-10 minutes. Brush tops with melted butter.
