Chocolate Cake (Geneva Hillje)

In memory of my mother, Geneva Boatwright Hillje -Betty J. Koricanek

2 c. sugar 2-1/2 c. sifted flour

3/4 c. shortening 2 tsp. baking soda

2 eggs 1 tsp. salt

1 c. sour milk 1/2 c. cocoa

1 tsp vanilla 1 c. boiling water

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Beat well after each addition. Add vanilla to milk. Alternate milk with flour which

has been sifted with salt, soda, and cocoa; beginning and ending with flour. Add boiling water and stir until thoroughly mixed.

Bake 350 degrees 25 to 35 min.
